Pacific Highway Upgrade, Woolgoolga to Ballina - Wave 5C Early Works

The Wave 5C Early Works package is part of the Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade. SEE Civil worked collaboratively with Roads and Maritime Services and Pacific Complete to deliver this part of the Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade.
There was two distinct areas of this early works package – Tabbimoble and Lang Hill.
Overall SEE Civil undertook foundation and embankment treatment works across about 4 kilometres.
In 2017, this project was announced as the Winner of Category 4 (project $10 million to $30 million) in the NSW branch CCF Earth Awards.
There early works were undertaken to ensure major construction could proceed in this area.
Scope of Works
- More than 200,000m3 of onsite cut/fill/borrow
- Treatment and processing of more than 10,000m3 of acid sulphate material
- Creek diversions and realignment of waterways identified as an endangered fish habitat for the Oxleyan Pygmy Perch.
- Bridge embankment construction including spill through materials
- Design and construct of permanent intersections
- Design and construction of creek crossings for heavy vehicles during construction
- Import of 82,000m2 of drainage rock
- Use of an Xcentric ripper to excavate 40,000m3 of hard sandstone
- Crushing and screening operation established to process sandstone
- Clearing and processing more than 22,000m3 that was ultimately used in power generation
- Detailed planning and sequencing required to minimise impact on existing Pacific Highway motorists
