Tomewin Mountain Road Slope Stabilisation

The ex-tropical cyclone Debbie weather event, badly damaged a section of slope on Tomewin Mountain Road in the Currumbin Valley. Under teh National Disaster Repair and Recovery Scheme (NDRRA), SEE Civil was appointed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to stablise the batter slip and reconstruct the pavements and drainage on Tomewin Mountain Road.

Scope of works

Installation of 200 Ischebeck (self-drilling, self-grouting) soil nails – due to the condition of the road failure this required strict controls on machine weights and offsets
Placement of 900m2 of 180mm shotcrete on a slope
Management of extensive soil nail testing
Replace approximately 75 metres prime and seal asphalt flexible pavement on Tomewin Mountain Road
Temporary relocation of services and works around service infrastructure including powerlines
Traffic management under live traffic flows, including extended lane closures and works behind barriers
Management of day and night shift including traffic control for night time road closures
Installation of concrete strip foundation and guardrail
Enkomat stabilisation at the toe of the shotcrete
